DeArmond, Malacas launch in to Alaska history; Dominique dazzles in WWU debut

In just his second indoor track and field meet for U-Mary, Mark DeArmond is already firing on all cylinders.

The sophomore from Wasilla clocked a personal-best 6.99 seconds in the 60-meter dash to finish fourth at the U-Mary Alumni Open, becoming the eighth-known Alaskan to dip under the seven-second barrier. DeArmond also finished runner-up in the 200 in 22.89, separated by a mere five thousandths of a second from the winner.

After cracking the Alaska top-10 all-time performers list in his season-opener, DeArmond sliced 0.07 seconds from his time to move into a tie with UAA’s Peyton George of Fairbanks (Lathrop) — who also clocked 6.99 earlier this year — at No. 7, among known performers…
