The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for strong and gusty northerly winds affecting parts of Anchorage and the northwestern Kenai Peninsula through Monday morning.
Forecasters say winds will peak Sunday afternoon and persist into early Monday, with gusts ranging from 35 to 45 miles per hour. Isolated stronger gusts are possible near Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson.
In Anchorage, the strongest winds are expected along Knik Arm and in north to west Anchorage, including Chugiak and Birchwood west of the Glenn Highway, JBER, Government Hill, Downtown Anchorage, and west Anchorage. Other parts of Anchorage and Eagle River are expected to see lighter winds…
