Operation Santa visits displaced Western Alaska families in Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – For nearly 70 years, Operation Santa has brought Alaska National Guard members statewide to spread holiday joy to rural communities.

This year, the Alaska Guard said it brought the Operation festivities to Anchorage for the first time in recent memory. In December, the Alaska National Guard hosted its Operation Santa festivities at the Alaska Native Heritage Center for Western Alaska families displaced by former Typhoon Halong.

“This time, it was an opportunity to welcome them as neighbors here in Anchorage,” Jenni Ragland, with the Salvation Army, said. “It just maybe hopefully alleviated some of the burden that their families are experiencing.”…
