ANCHORAGE, AK (Alaska’s News Source) – We’re ushering in the first week of 2026 with bitterly cold air, with many areas of the state under a cold weather advisory. Portions of the Copper River Basin are under an extreme cold warning, with lows of -55 to -65 degrees will be likely through the weekend. Hypothermia and frostbite concerns remain with many areas of the state, as bitterly cold Arctic air remains with us.
SOUTHCENTRAL:
Cold weather advisories have been issued for Anchorage and western parts of the Kenai into the weekend, as lows from -20 to -30 degrees will be likely. An extreme cold warning is also in place for portions of the Copper River Basin, where lows of -55 to -65 will be likely into the weekend. While the rest of Southcentral doesn’t remain under a cold weather advisory, the impacts will be the same, as bitter cold weather remains the story…
