1st Providence Alaska baby of 2026 born hours after midnight

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – With a new year comes new life — both metaphorically and literally — and one Anchorage mother now can claim the title of being first to deliver this year.

The first baby of 2026 from Providence Alaska Medical Center was born in the early hours of New Year’s Day to 21-year-old Margaret Crump, the proud new mother to little Bentley.

Bentley was born at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, weighing six pounds, one ounce at birth, and measuring 18.7 inches, according to the nursing staff at Providence.

Because he was eight days early, Crump said Bentley had to be brought to the NICU unit to help him breathe on his own…
