Fitness facility reopens on JBER following months of restoration

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – January marks a month since the 673d Force Support Squadron reopened Hangar 5, a satellite fitness facility on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, following over eight months of restorations.

The historic, nearly 90-year-old hangar welcomed back service members and their families on Dec. 8, 2025. The upgrades to the facility, JBER personnel said, allow for larger unit trainings and individual fitness.

“I love it,” Josh Grieser, the Elmendorf Fitness Center Director on JBER, said. “Each time we complete a project like this, it’s just a small step forward in improving an old historic facility like this that’s got a lot of history on the base.”…
