Early morning earthquake strikes Southcentral Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – A magnitude 4.4 earthquake struck about 27 miles east of the Mount Spurr volcano Wednesday morning, giving many Southcentral Alaskans an early wake-up call.

The earthquake was detected around 6:24 a.m. It had a depth of 53.4 miles and was about 57 miles west of Anchorage, according to the Alaska Earthquake Center.
