ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Families of eager ice fishers descended upon Jewel Lake in Anchorage Saturday for the latest edition of the Jewel Lake Ice Fishing Jamboree.
Anglers of all ages dropped their lines into roughly 500 pre-drilled holes across the frozen lake. While the fishing itself appeared slow, diversions like food trucks, and even Fur Rondy Royalty, provided more things to do.
“I truly believe here in Alaska, one thing that connects a lot of us is fishing,” said Dustin Slinker, event organizer and owner of the Bait Shack restaurant. “This time of year, coming out in the wintertime, we get to get out of the house.”…
