The 2026 Iron Dog Snowmachine Race, featuring four racers from the Central Kenai Peninsula, begins in Big Lake this week with Expedition and Ambassador classes starting on Thursday, followed by the Pro Class green flag on Saturday. This year’s race marks a significant milestone, with the finish returning to Fairbanks for the first time in five years. Sleds will cross the finish line at Pike’s Landing on the Chena River.
Organizers say the 2026 route reflects a bold new chapter for Iron Dog, with a more challenging and expansive course totaling roughly 2,500 miles across Alaska’s backcountry.
