Anchorage Fire Department unveils new aerial ladder truck with ceremony

The Anchorage Fire Department marked the arrival of a new aerial ladder truck Monday with a traditional “push-in” ceremony, honoring the days when crews would push horse-drawn rigs back into the station.

Weighing more than 82,000 pounds, the new truck replaces a 25-year-old vehicle, which will now move into reserve status.

Firefighter Oral Scott said, “The Anchorage Fire Department is in drastic need of having some new apparatus. We just have been in a period of time where things cost a lot of money to buy. And so we’ve pushed it out and we’re at the point where it’s tough to push out anymore.”…
