Some Denali Borough residents freed, others still trapped after heavy snow

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Some residents of the Denali Borough who’ve been trapped in their homes by heavy snowfall for weeks were finally freed this weekend after State DOT plows were able to reach them at the request of the borough.

“Kobe Road is not a state-maintained road, however DOT&PF did provide assistance on Saturday, 2/28/26,” DOT Spokesperson Angelica Stabs wrote in an email.

“Our crews worked for approximately 16 hours with 3 operators, 1 grader (from Cantwell), 1 loader (from Nenana), and 1 light-duty pickup. In total, about six miles of roadway were opened.”…
