Despite protests, ASD moves forward with plans to close Anchorage schools

Despite community protests, the Anchorage School District is moving forward with plans to close Campbell STEM Elementary, along with Lake Otis and Fire Lake Elementary, by the end of the school year.

At a recent school board meeting, students and parents from Campbell STEM spoke out, urging the district to reconsider. Many said they weren’t given enough time to share their opinions and questioned the process used to select schools for closure.

Parent Shanti Ward told board members, “It makes me angry. It feels unfair… the more that we protest, the more they put their foot down.”…
