ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Zoo has named its newest resident “Meatball,” a juvenile male opossum who was caught in a trap Thursday at a business near the Juneau airport and delivered to the zoo in Anchorage on Friday by Alaska Fish and Game biologists.
Opossum are not native to Alaska and are considered invasive species.
Meatball is the second opossum to reside at the Alaska Zoo; the first was a female named Grubby, who died in October 2025, whom zoo workers say they greatly miss.
