Ann Arbor dips $122,500 into police funds for attorney fee payout in tire chalking case

ANN ARBOR, MI — It’s been over a year since Ann Arbor agreed to a legal settlement offering $1 to anyone who had their car tires chalked by the city’s parking enforcement officers.

That was to resolve a class-action claim brought against the city in 2022 by Sean Yannotti, who complained the tires of his Chevrolet Sonic were marked when the city issued him an expired-meter parking ticket in 2019.

The claim process has concluded and the only remaining issue now is the statutorily required payout of reasonable attorney fees for the prevailing party, City Council stated in a resolution Monday night, June 1…
