Annual Taste of Ann Arbor food festival brings local flavors and sustainable serviceware to Main Street

Main Street was bustling with music and conversation Sunday, as hundreds of Ann Arbor community members gathered for the city’s annual Taste of Ann Arbor festival. Hosted by the Main Street Area Association, the food festival featured 23 local restaurants serving bite-sized portions of their iconic cuisines, ranging anywhere from $1 to $6 a plate.

Taste of Ann Arbor has been introducing local flavors to the community since the late 1980s, and has recently taken strides to improve logistics and sustainability. In an interview with The Michigan Daily, MSAA Executive Director Ashley Schafer, who has organized the event for the past two years, said expansion and proactive organizational measures allowed this year’s event to run smoother than previous years.

“We actually expanded our footprint to hopefully help with the long lines that we were experiencing,” Schafer said. “We wanted to make sure that all vendors were able to keep people in their lines without getting mixed up. We set up a day before just so we could start on time. We also implemented some presale tickets.”…
