Michigan Little League Gets $75K Lifeline Thanks to Viral TikTok

Childhood sports are a crucial part of growing up. I spent many summers bouncing among baseball, football, and soccer, making many friends and even more memories. It developed skills I still use today and a deep love for sports as a whole. I grew up in a very small town, so these sports were a big part of the community.

I was fortunate enough to have this, but a small town in Southeast Michigan is on the verge of losing its local Little League teams after it was vandalized last winter, draining the league’s financial resources.

Now on the verge of ceasing operations, a TikToker in Minnesota received a plea from the league organizer that put a spotlight on a town that didn’t expect it, and the community came through big time. So big, in fact, that the league won’t have to worry about funds for years to come.

Dadchats, Ypsilanti, and Massive Donations

Dadchats, whose real name is Dillon Michael White, is a TikToker, lawyer, law professor, and dad based in Minnesota who posts content about being a dad and a legal professional.

But he is also known for using his platform for good, which is exactly what happened when the President of the Ypsilanti National Little League in Ypsilanti, MI reached out to him.

In a post that has since surpassed a million views, Dadchats revealed that the President has been paying umpires out of pocket for much of the season just to keep things going, while also detailing what the league needs that it can no longer afford after its field was vandalized last winter.

Clearly, this story of perseverance and selflessness resonated with people because , within 72 hours, nearly $75,000 was donated to the YNLL, which will keep the league running for at least 9years to come, covering equipment costs, umpires, field maintenance, concessions, and more.
