Michigan man arrested after police find him at Pennsylvania motel with runaway girl

Erie, Pa (WJET/WFXP/ YourErie.com ) — A Michigan man was charged after Pennsylvania State Police located him with a runaway 16-year-old girl from Schroon Lake, New York.

PSP in Erie was notified by New York State Police at 4 a.m. on Jan. 24 about the reported runaway juvenile believed to be in the care of 45-year-old Matthew James Chantelois, of Dearborn, MI.

One person in custody after shooting Wednesday

According to a release, NYSP investigators pinged Chantelois’ cell phone near Motel 6 along Schultz Road in Summit Township, Erie County.

State police were able to match Chantelois’ vehicle from a provided description at the motel’s parking lot and located both him and the 16-year-old. Both were taken in for questioning.

Chantelois was then charged with interference of a child, corruption of minors and furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was arraigned and remains in Erie County Prison on a $100,000 cash bond.
