Paul Finebaum’s Blunt Warning to Ohio State HC Ryan Day Ahead of Pivotal 2024 Season

It’s no secret Ryan Day’s seat is warm. So warm, in fact, some believe if he can’t win the Big Ten and make a considerable run in the College Football Playoff next season that he’ll be fired.

That’s what three straight losses to Michigan will do if you’re the head coach at Ohio State. Expectations are high in Columbus, and losing that often to the Buckeyes’ most-hated rival is unacceptable. Is the tide shifting in both Columbus and Ann Arbor, though?

Jim Harbaugh is off to the NFL and Michigan is losing a big chunk of its roster to the NFL. Day and the Buckeyes, meanwhile, might have the best roster, at least on-paper, in all of college football next season, but therein lies the caveat. If Day loses another game to Michigan, or doesn’t make a deep run in the College Football Playoff, it’s tough to imagine a scenario where he keeps his job in 2025.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum sent this exact warning to Day ahead of the make-or-break 2024 college football season for his Buckeyes.

“If Ryan Day doesn’t beat Michigan, I’ll finish that statement later,” Finebaum said, clearly hinting at Day getting fired if he loses again to Michigan.
