MILFORD TWP. (WWJ) — A 75-year-old Milford woman who divers pulled from an icy pond Thursday afternoon has died at the hospital.
The Milford Police and Fire Departments were called to Hubbell Pond around 1:40 p.m. on reports that a dog appeared to be stuck on the ice, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders were able to rescue the dog, and in doing so, observed “several personal items near the edge of the ice,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release Thursday evening.
That’s when the sheriff’s office’s Search and Rescue Team (SSRT) was called in to assist. The team immediately deployed divers in the pond, assisted by “strike teams” from the Livingston County, Genesee County and Van Buren Township dive teams.
Crews found a coat near the surface and were eventually able to recover the 75-year-old woman, who had fallen through the ice about 250 feet from the edge of the ice, according to the sheriff’s office.
Once brought to shore, emergency personnel initiated lifesaving measures and she was taken to Detroit Medical Center Huron Valley – Sinai Hospital. She was pronounced dead around 7 p.m. Her name has not been released.
