Cops find drugs, guns hidden in child’s dresser after Ypsilanti trafficking suspects flee Michigan State Police, crash into garage

YPSILANTI TWP. (WWJ) — Two Ypsilanti men are expected to face drug-related charges after fleeing Michigan State Police and crashing into a garage.

It all unfolded around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan 31, when detectives from the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotics Enforcement Team (LAWNET) were conducting surveillance on a man suspected of narcotics trafficking in the Ypsilanti area.

Detectives followed the suspect, 28, and his passenger, 32, as they left Detroit, believed to be headed to Ypsilant, according to an MSP press release.

Authorities initiated a traffic stop along westbound I-94 near Belleville Road in Van Buren Township, but the suspect took off speeding when the trooper approached, according to MSP.

Police eventually found the suspect’s car crashed into a garage and spotted the men running from the car and forcing their way into a home — which was later determined to be owned by a woman who is the mother to one of the suspect’s children.

Detectives made their way into the home and found the suspect driver hiding in a bedroom, while the passenger was hiding under the bed in the same room. Both men were arrested and held at the Washtenaw County Jail.
