Canton man killed after struck by vehicle while crossing Ford Road

CANTON (WWJ) – A 55-year-old man is dead after he was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross Ford Road in Canton late Tuesday night, authorities said.

The Canton Public Safety Department said officers responded to reports of a fatal pedestrian crash around 9:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the area of Ford and Lilley in Canton.

When police arrived, they located the victim identified as a 55-year-old Canton man — he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Canton PD’s Accident Investigation Team was called out to investigate. Based on their preliminary findings, they determined a 23-year-old man driving a black Chevy Malibu was traveling westbound on Ford when he hit the victim who was crossing the roadway.

At this time, police said alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash.

The victim’s name was not released. The incident remains under investigation at this time. No other details were made public.
