TCM host to share Oscar stories and secrets from the stars at Dearborn library event

When Nicole Kidman won her best actress Oscar for “The Hours” in 2003, she had an epiphany later that night while sitting on the floor of the Beverly Hills Hotel eating takeout french fries.

“That’s when it hit me. I went, I need to find my love; I need a love in my life. Because this is supposed to be when you go, ‘This is ours,’ she says in the new book “50 Oscar Nights: Iconic Stars & Filmmakers on Their Career-Defining Wins” by Turner Classic Movies host Dave Karger.

From Kidman’s deeply personal observation to director Barry Jenkins’s chaotic experience when “La La Land” was mistakenly announced as the best picture winner in 2017, “50 Oscar Nights” takes readers behind the scenes of Hollywood’s biggest night through the eyes of a star-studded array of Academy Award-winning actors and filmmakers.

On Tuesday night, Karger will give a virtual talk hosted by the Dearborn Public Library. The library also is having three other cinema-themed author events and holding a 2024 Oscar Contest, which runs through March 9.
