Fenton man wins $25,000 a year for life on Michigan Lottery ticket

A Fenton man almost didn’t buy a Michigan Lottery ticket that recently won him $25,000 a year for life.

Matthew Russell made a last-minute decision to purchase a Lucky For Life ticket for the June 30 drawing at Hartland AC Holdings LLC located at 10440 Highland Road in Hartland.

“I wasn’t going to play Lucky for Life that day, but I was driving by the store on my way home and decided at the last minute to stop and buy a ticket,” Russell, 57, told the Michigan Lottery.

His ticket ended up matching the five white balls drawn that day — 6, 9, 12, 24 and 32, according to the Michigan Lottery .

“The next day, I called the Michigan Lottery’s winning number hotline, and when all my numbers were read off, I shouted: ‘Heck yeah!’ he said. “I instantly felt numb, and I still do weeks later!”

Russell recently claimed his prize and chose to receive the winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $390,000 instead of annuity payment of $25,000 a year for 20 years or life, whichever is great.
