Man accused of burying grandmother in shallow grave to undergo psychiatric exam

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 29-year-old man accused of killing his grandmother and burying her in the backyard of an Ypsilanti-area home will undergo a competency examination. Judge J. Cedric Simpson of 14A-1 District Court referred Ronald Fleming for the psychiatric exam, which will determine if he is mentally able to stand trial, during a hearing Tuesday, Aug. 27. Under Michigan law, defendants are presumed competent unless shown otherwise.
