81-year-old Canton woman drives off road, runs through garage and hits man in neighboring backyard

CANTON (WWJ) — An investigation is underway after an elderly woman drove into a backyard in Canton Monday afternoon, leaving a man seriously injured.

The crash happened in the area of Saltz and Redfern around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, according to the Canton Police Department.

A 2014 GMC Acadia, driven by an 81-year-old Canton woman, was headed west on Saltz when the SUV went off the road and hit a garage, officials said.

The SUV then went into the backyard of a neighboring home and hit a 52-year-old Canton man.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening, but serious injuries, officials said. The woman was also taken to the hospital, but her condition was not disclosed.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The crash comes the same day that a woman drove into an apartment building in Detroit .
