Metro Detroit Doctors Among Nine Charged in Alleged $20M Opioid Distribution Conspiracy

Nine individuals in the Metro Detroit area, including three doctors, have been charged with conspiracy in a scheme involving illegal opioid distribution, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison announced. The indictment alleges that between June 2021 and September 2024, Sharlene Dawson, also known as Sharlene Crawford, operated the P&A Aftercare clinic in Southfield as the operation hub. Doctors Charles Wasson, Maurice Potts, and Bruce Kaplan are accused of prescribing controlled substances to “fake patients” created by the scheme organizers, as per the Audacy report.
