Vernon Davis sees Jim Harbaugh’s time at Michigan as bellwether for Chargers tenure

Former San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis sees Jim Harbaugh’s time in Ann Arbor as a bellwether for what the 2023/24 College Football Playoff championship Michigan head coach will do with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Davis would know. He played for Harbaugh for the entirety of the 60-year-old’s time as the Niners’ head coach.

“Yeah, I think Harbaugh, that’s just how he’s wired. He has a unique ability to be able to turn any team around,” Davis said during the September 27 edition of the LA Sports Report . “We’ve seen it over and over; you go back to Stanford to San Francisco and to Michigan. He’s done it on multiple occasions. It’s a gift, and I strongly believe he’ll do the same thing with the Los Angeles Chargers. If it doesn’t happen now, it’s going to happen eventually.

“He knows exactly what it takes to be able to get someone or a group to rally behind him. He has a formula — whether it’s a formula, whether it’s just his personality — he has that ‘that’ and that’s just something that can’t be taken away. Being around him, just seeing how he operates as a coach, as a businessman, as a leader, he has all the qualities it takes to win and lead. And guys believed in what he was trying to do, and I guess that’s the thing that he has, when it comes to a team, a group of men. They believe and they respect him as a coach. And he knows how to get the best out of his players.”
