Fans Are Making the Same Joke After Michigan Gets Drubbed by Illinois

You’ve always got 2023, Michigan fans. Sure, that Wolverines’ championship was cast under a cloud of suspicion after the team was caught using analyst Connor Stalions to illegally scout opponents’ games. But no wins were vacated along the way, and Michigan’s championship–capped off with a thrilling win over Washington last January–is still intact.

That is a good thing, because the team has been a shambles lately. Most recently, the Wolverines went to Illinois for a Big Ten matchup with new quarterback Jack Tuttle under center, and were drubbed, 21-7, in a game that saw Illinois take ample advantage of Michigan’s three turnovers. (The Illini had none.)

The loss dropped Michigan to 4-3 and will drop them out of the Top 25 all together. Michigan entered the Illinois game at No. 24 in the coutnry. It’s a steep drop from the 15-0 showing the team put up under coach Jim Harbaugh and quarterback JJ McCarthy last year.

And Michigan haters from sea to shining sea (mostly in Ohio) used the opportunity to chime in and chip away at last season’s accomplishment, mostly repeating the same joke:
