A Wayne County jury found 43-year-old Kevin Yudt guilty of three charges last Friday, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office. Yudt was a sergeant with the Westland Police Department prior to the incident.

The charges stem from an altercation with security at MGM Grand Detroit on April 6, 2023. According to the prosecutors, an intoxicated Yudt was upset after he was denied access to the casino floor.

“Yudt identified himself as a Westland police sergeant and told security, ‘I’ll be waiting for you when you come to Westland, and you will not survive.’ He proceeded to poke a security guard in the chest while shouting racial slurs,” Nessel’s office said in a statement .

Yudt was reportedly fired by WPD the following month and criminal charges were filed this past May. He was found guilty on two counts of ethnic intimidation, which carry a penalty of up to 2 years in prison, and one misdemeanor charge of assault and battery.
