(WWJ) A Metro Detroit-area mayor is now skeptical, to say the least, of Google Maps after a scary situation overseas.
Grosse Pointe Park Mayor Michele Hodges and she her daughter were in France on Monday when they followed direction’s in the Google Maps app to a popular tourist destination on the English Channel — and ended up stuck in the mud in their rental car.
It took a towing company hours to get them out, Hodges said, but they were rescued and are doing just fine.
During the ordeal, Hodges communicated with friends and constituents on social media, saying in a Facebook post : “Yes, we are stuck in the mud, in the middle of nowhere, and waiting for a tow truck, but my goodness do we have a view, and cheese and baguettes to get us through.”
Hodges later posted an update stating that they were finally out, but that they’d been in more danger than they’d realized.
“We were actually in a tidal pool, and were in danger of being swept away. It took the towing company a couple of hours to safely get us out,” Hodges wrote. “Marvin is our new guardian angel – he knew just enough English to communicate, and was so sweet, and so kind, and worked so hard, and even drove us to our Airbnb. What an experience. Moral of the story — don’t trust Google maps.”
