Monday’s severe weather risk increases for part of Michigan

There is a risk for thunderstorms and severe weather on Monday and into Tuesday for all of Michigan. That risk has also increased for one part of the state, the National Weather Service said today in a forecast update.

Here’s what we know: As MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa told us on Friday, a big severe weather outbreak is expected west of the Great Lakes – in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin – on Monday afternoon.

For us, that means the active storm period would be Monday night and again into Tuesday. While storms are typically less severe in the evening hours because our air is cooler, the NWS forecast notes say a squall line of storms could cross Lake Michigan later Monday. This could bring damaging winds into the Lakeshore area in West Michigan and Northern Michigan, and then move inland…
