LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 3 of 5, Enhanced Risk for severe weather across most of Mid-Michigan. A Level 2 of 5 Slight risk, shown in yellow, is in place for the eastern portion of the lower peninsula – including eastern sections of Gratiot, Shiawassee, Livingston, and Washtenaw County.
A line of showers and thunderstorms will move off Lake Michigan around 9 pm tonight. The threat of severe weather across our area increases around 10 or 11 pm through 2 am Friday.
All hazards will be possible with this system. However, the main concern will be the potential for strong, damaging winds and large hail.
The Storm Prediction Center shows the chance for 70 miles per hour winds to occur across the area and hail around 1″ in diameter or larger.
There is also a threat of tornadic activity across southwestern sections of Mid-Michigan – including Calhoun and Branch Counties and parts of Hillsdale, Jackson, Eaton, and Barry Counties.
Due to the timing of this system, the StormTracker 6 Weather Team and the National Weather Service urge everyone to ensure they have multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts – especially alerts that can wake you up if a warning is issued overnight. This is also a great time to review your severe weather plan.
Our StormTracker 6 Weather team will continue to track the potential for severe weather across the area tonight and provide updates on-air at 5, 5:30, 6, and 11 pm…
