Join discussions on policing at event honoring slain Ann Arbor leader

ANN ARBOR, MI — For one police oversight commissioner, an upcoming symposium is about more than just shining a light on issues in her community. It’s about carrying on the legacy of a friend.

“If we don’t talk about these things, it’s the same as pretending they’re not happening,” said Jessica Francis, a commissioner with Ann Arbor’s Independent Community Police Oversight Committee who proposed the symposium.

The inaugural Jude Walton Memorial Social Justice Symposium is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21 in the Garret Room of the Student Center at Washtenaw County Community College, 4800 E.
