Over 2K students earn degrees, certificates from this Ann Arbor college

YPSILANTI, MI – Hundreds of Washtenaw Community College students graduated this weekend — just as summer academic sessions get underway.

According to WCC, commencement candidates included roughly 3,000 associate’s degrees and certificates with 2,200 unique graduates. The ceremony was held Saturday, May 17, at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center.

Featured in the ceremony were WCC President Rose Bellanca, who presented awards to graduates, as well as graduating nursing student Bryan Wilson and longtime English and composition instructor Tom Zimmerman as speakers.

Tom Butman, a WCC program alumnus and general manager of family business Gene Butman Ford in Ypsilanti, where he employs 10 graduates, received an honorary associate’s degree in community service Saturday after serving as an industry advisory board member for the college over 12 years…
