Ann Arbor teachers, parents call on district to keep performance spaces in school rebuilds

ANN ARBOR, MI – Many Ann Arbor schools come equipped with permanent performance spaces or stages, helping students with their drama or music education.

Plans for new schools being built don’t accommodate those spaces, some local teachers and parents say, and there is a new push to include them.

A letter from 52 music teachers across AAPS issued this month asks Superintendent Jazz Parks and other administrators to include stages in the design for rebuilds of elementary schools, referring to such spaces as a vital part of students’ early K-12 experience and the performing arts overall as a legacy that 2019’s $1 billion capital bond promised to honor…
