When the water rises: Canton turns to feds for help with flooding problem

CANTON TWP. — For years, township residents have found themselves bracing for the worst every time dark clouds roll in.

Now, after a string of increasingly severe storms and mounting pressure from frustrated homeowners, Canton Township is working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in an effort to better understand and address persistent flooding problems.

The study, which began earlier this year under the Corps’ Planning Assistance to States program, is a 50/50 cost-share agreement aimed at pinpointing the causes of flooding in key areas across the township, particularly along Fellows Creek, Willow Creek, and a stretch of Fowler Creek near Geddes and Denton roads…
