If you have a nut allergy in your family, you know they can be hard to avoid, especially while out and about. Though more options are available in grocery stores, it’s still something you need to pay attention to when you’re attending community events like the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market.
But now you have another tasty option: Sun Cycle Bakery, owned and operated by Matthew Whitfield. With a focus on nut-free cookies and breads, the bakery uses sunflower oil and seeds instead.
“I love to cook and I knew I wanted to set up a business that had no nuts, so we didn’t have to factor in concern for cross contamination,” said Whitfield, who attended a culinary design program in Austin, Texas, before making the move to Michigan.
So far, this work has yielded five different products: two cookies, sweet challah, sunflower bread and focaccia…
