I always loved fairs. As a kid I couldn’t wait for our local Delaware County Fair in Muncie, Indiana. We would spend all day at the fair!
Then there was the huge Indiana State Fair that typically welcomes nearly one million visitors every year. They always have top entertainment, too. I saw the Jackson 5 there way back when! That’s a blast from the past!
The Michigan State Fair, not nearly the spectacle as the two-and-a-half week Indiana State Fair, is coming up during this Labor Day weekend. It’s only five days over that weekend, but is packed with everything you would expect from a big fair.
“Beginning way back in 1849, the Michigan State Fair was one of the first in the U.S. It was always on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, and closed down in 2009 due to budget problems. But, there was huge interest to bring it back, and it has returned as a private sector event,” the Fair says.
