Charges filed in case of man accused of ‘carelessly playing with’ handguns, killing his 13-year-old sister in Canton

CANTON TWP. (WWJ) — A 23-year-old man is facing manslaughter and other criminal charges stemming from an accidental shooting that killed his teenage sister in Canton.

Jay-Veon McKinney of Detroit is accused of mishandling of a loaded firearm in their home at the Ridgeline at Canton Apartments, in the area of Joy Rd. and Honeytree, on Tuesday.

The Canton Police Department said its investigation revealed evidence that McKinney was “carelessly playing with two handguns,” in the presence of his two younger sisters, both minors…
