Woman to stand trial in Livonia hit-and-run crash that left 3-year-old dead

LIVONIA – The motorist accused of striking a mother and her 3-year-old twins, killing one of the children and fleeing the scene, was ordered to stand trial.Tammy Sandoval, 55, of Mt. Morris, was bound over to Wayne County Third Judicial Circuit Court on six felony charges following a preliminary exam Aug. 4 in front of 16th District Court Judge Sean Kavanagh.

Neither defense attorney Austin Gregory nor Wayne County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Brian Craigo immediately returned calls for comment.The charges Sandoval is facing include one count of driving while license suspended causing death; two counts of driving while license suspended causing serious injury; one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death; and two counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury.Police say Sandoval was driving on Merriman Road near Lyndon Street at about 10:46 p.m., June 29 when she struck Tia Robinson and her 3-year-old twins, Khloe and Khalil, who were crossing Merriman. Sandoval, who fled the scene according to police, was later located by officers with the help of multiple eyewitnesses and was taken into custody.Khalil died as a result of the crash and his funeral was held Aug. 1. His sister was released from the hospital on July 3, while the twins’ mother remains hospitalized in critical condition with her recovery “in doubt” according to the Livonia First Responder Foundation, which has taken up a collection to support the family…
