Man who shot a woman inside Midland’s Olive Garden sentenced to prison

MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – The Westland man accused of shooting a Saginaw woman last year inside the Olive Garden in Midland has been sentenced.

Court records show 42-year-old Robert Russel Monit will spend at least 25 years in prison after being convicted of all 11 charges, including assault with intent to murder, earlier this year.

He was convicted of the following:

  • One count of assault with intent to murder.
  • One count of carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.
  • Two counts of felony firearm.
  • Six counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
  • One count of aggravated domestic assault.

Midland County Circuit Judge Michael Beale sentenced Monit to consecutive sentences for his assault with intent to murder, two felony firearms and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent charges. That means the sentence will begin following the expiration of the previous one…
