ANN ARBOR, MI – My older son sprinted across the Ingalls Mall on the University of Michigan’s campus the other day. He took the same steps I made at least 1,000 times over a decade ago.
On the left stands the Modern Languages Building, where I majored in Arabic. On the right stands the Michigan League, where I frequently wrote essays in the wee hours fueled by red Monster Energy drinks.
He was leading me to the 10th floor of the Burton Tower. We looked over all of downtown Ann Arbor, wearing protective earmuffs while ringing the Carillon bells. Apologies for the extra couple of rings around noon on Monday…
