The University of Michigan vs. Ohio StateUniversity (I refuse to put a ‘The’ in front of it) normally involves football, recruiting, and the final score. Well, apparently, OSU is now adding cocktails to that list, as the university has officially sued a Michigan restaurant for trademark infringement.
Maybe it’s because Michigan has been riding a four-year win streak in one of college football’s greatest rivalries, but instead of game planning for the 2025 faceoff, The Irish Star reports that OSU is busy slapping a lawsuit on an Ann Arbor bar.
The Brown Jug bar in Ann Arbor, named after the trophy involved in the U of M vs. University of Minnesota football game, recently rolled out a drink called “Buckeye Tears,” which is obviously a joke. OSU responded not with laughter or a sense of humor, but with lawyers demanding the establishment pull the drink off their menu.

Seriously. Ohio State University (yes, still no ‘The’) lawyered up. But, the Brown Jug, as of a week ago, seems to be defiantly still pouring Buckeye Tears, based on the Reel posted (see above) to the bar’s official Instagram.

What This Means for the Rivalry
While I’m sure OSU’s high-paid attorneys will eventually win out, keep an eye on the stands on November 29, 2025, when the Wolverines and Buckeyes meet up in Ann Arbor this year. There will undoubtedly be some signs during the tailgate (they aren’t allowed in the stadium) or even costumes during the game, poking fun at OSU’s lack of humor…
