Ann Arbor community members gathered Saturday for Bikeapalooza, a free annual event celebrating downtown Ann Arbor’s protected bikeway network. The family-friendly event included various activities designed to promote bike safety and education on downtown bike networks. Hosted by the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority in collaboration with the Ann Arbor District Library and the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority, Bikeapalooza also featured live music and work by street artist David Zinn.
The first Bikeapalooza in 2019 celebrated the opening of Ann Arbor’s first two-way protected bikeway, the William Street bikeway. In an interview with The Michigan Daily, Maura Thomson, DDA executive director and event organizer, said Ann Arbor is working to improve biking infrastructure to further encourage biking among the public.
“In Ann Arbor, we are working to have infrastructure in place that makes biking safe for all people,” Thomson said. “So we hope to be a community where people are comfortable biking, so that it can be an alternative to other modes of transportation, if it’s possible for you.”…
