In my house, wings aren’t just food—they’re practically a sport. My husband Charlie is a total wing fanatic. If the Lions are on TV, you can bet there’s a plate of wings within arm’s reach. He’s sampled spots all across Michigan and has his own short list of favorites: Parkshore Lounge in Traverse City, G’s Pizza in West Branch, JB’s Pizza in Grand Rapids, and 131 Sports Bar and Lounge at Gun Lake Casino. Basically, if wings are on the menu, he’s in.
Lovefood’s Search for the Best Wings
But now I’ve got one more restaurant to add to his must-try list. Because according to the foodie site Lovefood.com, one Michigan restaurant has officially earned the crown as the state’s “king of the wing.”
Lovefood recently went on the hunt for the best chicken wings in every state—sampling everything from sticky Asian sauces to smoky Alabama white sauce…
Michigan’s Top Chicken Wings
After digging in, they landed on a spot in Ann Arbor that locals already swear by: Side Biscuit.
This cozy chicken wing and scratch-biscuit joint is the brainchild of chef and owner Jordan Baldum, a Buffalo, New York native who moved to Ann Arbor but couldn’t quite find the wings he was craving. So, in true “make it yourself” fashion, he started serving wings from his driveway during the pandemic in 2020. The response was so good, he opened a brick-and-mortar location at 1232 Packard St. in 2021.
What’s on the Menu at Side Biscuit
And the menu? It’s a wing lover’s dream. You can order six, ten, twenty—or even fifty wings if you’re rolling in with a crew.
Sauce options include classics like OG Buffalo and Open Pit BBQ, to more adventurous picks like Korean Caesar. There’s even a flavor of the week, so you never know what creative twist might pop up. If you’re more of a dry-rub person, they’ve got you covered there too…
