UM-Health Sparrow offering free mobile mammograms

IONIA, Mich. (WILX) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and University of Michigan Health-Sparrow is marking the month by offering free mammograms.

UM-Health Sparrow is set to hold three mobile mammogram clinics in Mid-Michigan:

  • Friday, Oct. 10, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • UM Health-Sparrow Ionia, 3565 S. State St., Ionia.
  • Monday, Oct. 13, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • UM Health-Sparrow Carson, 406 E. Elm St., Carson City.
  • Friday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • UM Health-Sparrow Lansing Health Center, 2909 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing.

The service is free. UM-Health Sparrow says the clinics aim to combat the “common barriers to healthcare,” specifically for rural and uninsured people.

Screening mammograms are a crucial tool in the fight against breast cancer, as they can detect tumors early, often before they can be felt and when treatment is most successful.
