On November 3, 2025, Rx Kids and the City of Ypsilanti announced the expansion of the cash prescription program for mothers and infants to Ypsilanti. The program will begin on December 1, 2025. It will provide pregnant women with $1,500 during pregnancy and $500 per month for the first six months of their baby’s life. There are no conditions attached to the payments. The program is intended to reduce financial stress for families during pregnancy and early infancy.
Families can use the funds for expenses such as food, baby supplies, housing, and childcare. Mayor Nicole Brown said she is pleased to bring Rx Kids to Ypsilanti and noted the city’s focus on supporting children from birth. Dr. Mona Hanna, director of Rx Kids and associate dean for public health at Michigan State University, said the program has shown positive results in other Michigan communities, including improvements in maternal and infant health.
