Stabbing suspect pleads guilty to Ann Arbor attack

A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge after stabbing a construction worker near a Michigan Medicine construction site in September.

Lagarien Johnny Thomas pleaded guilty to aggravated assault — a misdemeanor — during an Oct. 21 hearing before 15th District Court Judge Kerene Moore. Two felony charges, including assault with intent to do great bodily harm and assault with a dangerous weapon, were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. A misdemeanor aggravated assault generally is applied when the attack occurs without a deadly weapon. It remains unclear what was used to stab the victim.

Thomas was originally arraigned Sept. 20 after the University of Michigan’s Division of Public Safety and Security responded to a stabbing at about 6:21 p.m. Sept. 19 near Catherine Street and Zina Pitcher Place…
