WCC Marks 60 Years in Ann Arbor with Free Community Exhibition on College History

Washtenaw Community College (WCC) in Ann Arbor is marking its 60th anniversary with an exhibition called ’60 Years of Opening Doors.’ The exhibition is open at The Gallery in the Morris Lawrence Building and will run through January 9, 2026. It highlights the college’s history and the 40-year work of its Foundation in supporting students. Admission is free.

The exhibition includes a timeline of WCC’s milestones, a video with archival footage, and artifacts such as the ceremonial commencement mace made by former faculty member David Byrd in the early 1970s. Visitors can also see a shovel from a campus groundbreaking, college logos from different periods, and information about each of WCC’s four presidents.

The display covers WCC’s beginnings, including the 1965 county vote that created the college and the opening of its first classrooms near Willow Run in 1966.
