Man accused of using stolen credit card info to buy gift cards in Wayne County tap-to-pay scheme

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A California man is facing charges after he allegedly used stolen credit card information on tap-to-pay platforms to buy gift cards at stores across Wayne County, officials said.

Jian Wei Li, 40, of Hayward, California, has been charged with three counts of identity theft, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officials said between May 21 and Nov. 11 of this year, Li allegedly “used mobile tap-to-pay platforms with stolen credit card information” to buy gift cards from multiple Wayne County retailers…
